I've seen the testosterone-charged movie 300 not just once, not twice but four times. This quadruple viewing is not exactly a function of an addiction to seeing 300 half-naked men lug it out against an army of monsters, transexuals, and what not. Instead, it's more of me being a good friend to friends who haven't seen the movie. Yeah, right.
The first time I watched it was with a bunch of High School guy friends at Greenbelt 3. Garro and I have been waiting for this Frank Miller movie since the fourth quarter of last year. Second time I saw it was with officemates at Rockwell. The third time was with my college friends at Shang. The fourth time was again at Greenbelt, with my other officemates.
So how do you watch a movie four times without feeling it's a waste of 160 bucks? The first time you see it, just enjoy the sensory treat---great fight scenes, bodies that make you want to hit the gym, and the appeal of the mythical. The second time, take notice of details in the choreography of the fight scenes and get the dialogue right. The third time, watch the background and discover how extras sometimes do a lame job at their acting. The fourth time, take power naps and sleep on the semi-boring parts and just wake up for your favorite scenes. This will help keep you charged for your post-movie activities.
If there's any good that came out from this apparent "madness" of watching the movie four times, it's learning which cinemas have better THX than others. Of the three I've tried with the same movie, I'd say the Shang cinema was at its audal best. I still wouldn't say it's the best place to watch a movie in though, because of other factors---of which a discussion on would merit an entirely new BLOG entry.
Furthermore, I got to watch the movie with good friends. Sap. Sap. Sap. That's good enough reason to watch it four times. Cheeseball...
Don't get me wrong. I loved the movie. I found it to be such a visual treat. My favorite scenes include (1) the oracle, (2) the 1st clash with the Persian footsoldiers and (3) the Astinos and Stelios fight scene which was reminiscent of some Romeo Must Die-is-Aaaliyah-dancing or-fighting-scenes. A bloody tango always sounds appealing. Overall, I'd recommend that you watch 300, if for some social suicidal reasons you still haven't seen it.
Garro and James just asked me to do a 1500 next week. Quite amazingly, I'm considering it. Ooh, I'm such a guy!
